14 Suspects Arrested in Guanajuato For Involvement in Violent Events in Uruapan
Among the detainees are two minors, the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection released him during his tour in Durango
On Thursday afternoon, forces from the three governmental levels carried out a combined operation in Silao, in the area known as ‘El Cárcamo’, where they arrested 14 subjects. They are allegedly involved in the violent events of yesterday where 19 bodies were found in various parts of the city of Michoacán.
Alfonso Durazo Montaño, Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), said that the Jalisco Nueva Generación cartel and the Los Viagras criminal organization were responsible, in an interview on Friday, during his tour of the state of Durango.
“This is the result of a dispute between the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) and another criminal organization, Los Viagras. Yesterday, they were arrested by Marines and State Police in Guanajuato.”
All of them were arrested with long weapons, including two 16 years olds. The secretary did not mention where the suspects were arrested, but that more information would be released shortly.
President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said he will continue to address the causes of the violence “We will continue to fight poverty, creating jobs, serving young people, and improving well-being. Peace and tranquility are fruits of justice. And it may take time, but that’s the best strategy.
Yesterday I was informed that the Secretary of the Navy arrested 14 people. It caught my attention – and of course it is something painful – that, in this group of the 14, two are 16 years old. We have to take care of young people, take young people away from crime, so they don’t get involved. Programs are being carried out, so that the young people have options, have alternatives, can study, can work, can be happy with their families, so that young people do not take that path”.
The president said that he will start a youth care program in Michoacán to prevent addictions.
There are 10 states that are being given special attention which are under surveillance and will be reinforced.
H also mentioned that the rate of homicides has not decreased in Jalisco, Michoacán, Guerrero, Guanajuato, or Veracruz; “But we do know that it is happening and we are acting”
