King Tut Comes to GTO

The exhibit “Tutankhamen, the tomb, The gold and the curse” has traveled around Mexico and the US and now it’s coming to the state of Guanajuato!

Starting September 26th, come see what has wowed and amazed people for decades. While there’ll be no mummies, on display will be 200 replicas of some of the 3500 artifacts uncovered in 1922 in Egypt. These include 3000 year-old funeral masks, embalming tools, jewelry and more.

While King Tutankhamen, better known as King Tut, was by no means the most significant king of Egypt, he is perhaps the most well known. He was a boy king, taking the throne at age 9 and dying at age 19. In 1922, Egyptologist Howard Carter famously unearthed his tomb which was very much in tact. But his popularity ballooned in the 70’s through media, movies and more.

Sponsored by the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), the exhibit will be displayed at Parque Bicentenario, between Silao and Guanajuato. It will be open to the public Tuesday-Friday from 9am-6pm and Saturday-Sunday from 10am-8pm. The cost is 25 pesos for adults, 10 pesos for children under 1.2m (3ft 9”) and for senior citizens with proper identification. The exhibit is free to the public on Wednesdays.
