Governor Says Homicides Down in Guanajuato

“The state that has always been recognized for its safety,” said the Governor of Guanajuato, in an interview with Paola Rojas.

Guanajuato governor, Diego Sinhue Rodríguez Vallejo, claims murders have decreased in the state (though, relative to what period was not specified nor by how much), during a broadcast of the program ‘Al Aire con Paola Rojas’ (on the air with Paola Rojas) of Televisa, filmed Wednesday in San Miguel de Allende.
This despite the fact that although there was a downward trend in past months, violence was rebounded in August and more than 300 homicides were recorded in the state.

“at the national level we have an insecurity problem, Guanajuato is no exception; we are working hard. Fortunately, homicides have been declining, there are strong institutions that we are working with. It is a state that has always been recognized for its security,” he said.
The Governor emphasized that the U.S. Embassy has never issued a travel alert for visitors for Guanajuato, “We have never had one because there are strong institutions, which work and solve problems,” he stressed.
He stressed that the State remains a benchmark in tourism, but also in sectors such as agribusiness and the automotive industry. And he emphasized that San Miguel de Allende was recently recognized by Travel Leisure magazine as the Best City in Latin America and the Second Best City in the World. “In addition, three of the top five hotels in Mexico are here in San Miguel” he added.
The Governor further pointed out that Guanajuato is the sixth most visited destination nationally, because among other attractions, it has two world heritage cities: Guanajuato capital and San Miguel de Allende, in addition to six pueblos mágicos, despite having no beach.
In the same manner, he stated that Bajío International Airport offers 10 daily flights to the United States and 16 flights to other international destinations per week.
In the past 11 months the governor has been in office, he has opened at least 10 companies and that the Toyotaplant begins manufacturing in December.

“In the region, Querétaro, Aguascalientes, Guanajuato, San Luis, seven thousand vehicles are able to be produced per day, plus more companies are coming,” he said.

In addition, the Governor made mention of the Pact San Miguel de Allende that was signed this year with the states of Jalisco, San Luis Potosí, Querétaro and Aguascalientes, in order to continue attracting foreign investment.

“This region has grown 4.4% on average the last ten years, we grow at a rate of twice the country, now it’s going to be 4x,” he said.

He finally made an invitation for the 47th edition of the Cervantino International Festival and the Hanover Fair, which will be in October.

“(At the Fair) you will be able to find the latest advancements in robotics, drones, technology, 5G and the reason is called Industry 4.0, which is a campaign we want to promote, and this fair is fundamental”, he concluded.
