Happy Mother’s Day (In Mexico)
Wait…Mother’s Day is always on a Sunday, right? While Mother’s Day is celebrated on the 2nd Sunday of May in the United States, Canada, and Australia, Mexico has a different special date. Here, moms are always honored on May 10th, which means it can fall on any day of the week. And if you thought Mexico was the only country with a “different date”, think again! Spain, France, Norway, Poland, Romania, and the United Kingdom all celebrate Moms on entirely different dates.
The 1st Mother’s Day (Día de las Madres) was celebrated in 1922 in Mexico. In Mexico, it is considered an “observance” rather than a national holiday, so business hours should not be impacted.
You’ll undoubtedly see vendors selling roses and other treats to mark the occasion. So, take this opportunity to celebrate twice this year – once today and once Sunday!
