Lamb and Mezcal and Laughter, oh my!
This Saturday, hundreds descended upon Hotel Casa de Aves to taste various lamb dishes and mezcal concoctions. Upon entry, most chose to give a voluntary donation to the firefighters who watched the cars in the parking lot. At the gate, one received a stamp-able passport for tasting the lamb dishes and a hollowed out gourd to taste mezcal in.
With the soft buzz of the DJ’s music in the background, we proceeded to try each and every mezcal. Each had a completely different stand and flavor profile ranging from sweet to smokey. There were infusions and cocktails to boot. Past the mezcals were ice creams, traditional drink stands and lots and lots of seating. One could join the dozen or so lines to try the various lamb dishes from various restaurants.
The main area was covered and was surprisingly pleasant, despite the ambient temperature and sun giving a feel of 33C or 90F. Wander outside and you’d find a green pasture, reminiscent of the midwest United States. Many people were sprawled out in the lawn and some even took a nap in the shade. Children frolicked in the play areas and the adults congregated around the artesianal market which included jewelry, beers, cakes, moles, cocoa drinks pulque and more.
People were laughing, mingling and having a good time, benefiting some of the many good causes including the Fire Department of San Miguel de Allende and the Food Bank of San Miguel de Allende A.C. And on your way out, a balloon gondola was showing off it’s flames! Quite a lovely day for many.
The mezcal brands present were: Mezcal Buen Viaje, Mezcal-Art, Mezcal 211, Mezcal Agua Dulce, Sertres, Undocumented,Mezcal Moa, Pozo Hondo, Bruxo, Mezcal Union, When they talk to you about love, Rajabule,Arrancame La Vida, Mezcalería Abati, Yaniss, Closed Cord and Mezcal Tolin.
